Locusts and Horses

I don't know about you, but if I saw a locust with the face of a human, the hair of a woman, and teeth like a lion, I'd run! Not to mention the iron breastplate, the scorpion-like tails that sting and the power to hurt people for 5 months? Yikes! This chapter created so much imagery in my mind it was hard to go on with my day without seeing locusts and horses! And whether this imagery is literal or symbolic, God's wrath is very evident. I wouldn't want to be the "rest of mankind" who the Bible says, "Did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshipping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their sexual immortality or their thefts."
Verse 6 is rather disturbing I think. Can you imagine seeking death, and not finding it? Most of us wouldn't want to die if we had the choice, but this verse says that "people will seek death and will not find it. They will long to die, but death will flee from them." I can't imagine that!
