STUDY
- How are you supposed to approach older men, older women, younger men, younger women?
- What does this text say about someone who does not provide for his family?
- What does this passage say about an elder who rules well?
APPLICATION
- Who do you know that you tend to rebuke, when rather you should encourage?
- How are you responsible for providing for your relatives?
- Whom do you know that labors in preaching and teaching that you could bless with encouragement and praise? It is very important also to pray for our elders!
PRUNING ME
As I have shared in past entries, I have had past issues with rebuking people I truly care about. My rebuking was never done out of harm, but it was extremely harmful. It was because I was truly excited about what God had been doing in my life, but came across proud, ignorant and selfish. When I read verses one and two, I realized that I rebuked older women- including my own mother, and I spoke down to younger women- definitely not as if they were sisters. I am glad that I am aware of my sinful nature, and I am glad to be reminded in this passage how to build up the family of Christ.
